“Research Fairness Initiative (RFI) reporting demonstrates UADB’s global commitment towards fair research partnerships. RFI has helped us to create an effective governance that addresses equity issues in research partnerships and facilitated a conducive research environment to achieve our goals in developing quality & cutting-edge research innovation for socio-economic welfare. We encourage all universities & research organisations to use RFI reporting tool to build a research system that follows and Certifies fair research partnership practices.”
“A key challenge is an imbalance in the research partnerships where most studies are initiated by the “north”. I would like to see researchers from the “south” initiating about half the studies that they are undertaking with “north” partners. The Research Fairness Initiative throws a spotlight on the need for fairness in research collaborations and provides an approach to measuring it.”
“The Research Fairness Initiative helps organizations truly assess their practices, standards and thus also their strategies in order to achieve effective partnerships.”
“The RFI helps organizations to find out where they are weak, where gaps exist and where they should/can improve in key areas. It encourages many different actors to report how they can take measures to create fairer partnerships in research and innovation. The collaborations with COHRED and the mentioning of the KFPE Guidelines (11 principles & 7 Questions) in the resource section of the RFI helped it to make them more visible in many more organizations.”
“The Research Fairness Initiative tool has helped us to learn and implement the best practices to deal with the national and global research and innovation partnership challenges such as transparency, equal flow of information, opportunity and decision-making power between research institutions. IUG is in the process of publishing its first RFI report to showcase its commitment towards fair and equitable research collaboration and establishing transparent governance.”
“The RFI implementation is a systemic intervention at the institutional level to improve the actor’s practices and policies in research partnerships. Partnerships is important for building sustainable research and innovation capacity, especially in low-income and slow developing Arab countries to equip these countries to tackle the challenges, stimulating economic growth, generating resilience, and promoting equity; and lastly, fairness, integrity, and transparency in research collaborations are at the heart of achieving better partnerships for better. All institutions should begin with adopting the RFI framework to establish the best practice in research collaborations.”
